Science & research
As a medical association, we are dedicated to promoting research and expanding the body of scientific knowledge in the fields of pulmonology and respiratory medicine, and focus on applied practice. To deepen and provide access to the constantly growing body of knowledge, we support professional exchange between researchers and physicians in all areas of respiratory medicine. The DGP annual congress is the biggest and most important forum for this exchange. Our aim is to support basic research, clinical research and treatment, and overall parameters in the field of pulmonology, and thus ensure optimal patient care. Over the past several years, the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) has quickly grown into an internationally renowned and highly competitive research facility; today it is a true success story for respiratory medicine in Germany. We are pleased that members of our association have positions of leadership in the DZL and other networks and study groups. The knowledge generated through research is the foundation of our evidence-based guidelines and recommendations, which provide support for doctors when making medical decisions.
The DGP itself has established 15 scientific sections to cover the full breadth of our field. They conduct the scientific work of our association, incorporate the latest research and clinical findings in their fields, and put these into practice.
